Advanced: Find Your Range
You can always sing the melody (normal tune) of a song. If, however, you desire to sing harmony, here read below to begin by finding your voice type.
Hymns are written for four voice types:
- Saprano (highest, and usually the song’s melody)
- Alto
- Tenor
- Bass (lowest)
If you do not know your voice type, take this vocal range test: Vocal Range Test. This test includes six voice types rather than just four. If you happen to not be one of the four listed above, you can choose a neighboring voice type that feels most comfortable. For example:
- Saprano
- Mezzo-saprano (If this is your voice type, try Saprano or Alto for Hymns)
- Alto
- Tenor
- Baritone (If this is your voice type, try Tenor or Bass for Hymns)
- Bass
