Advanced: Find Your Range

You can always sing the melody (normal tune) of a song. If, however, you desire to sing harmony, here read below to begin by finding your voice type.

Hymns are written for four voice types:

  1. Saprano (highest, and usually the song’s melody)
  2. Alto
  3. Tenor
  4. Bass (lowest)

If you do not know your voice type, take this vocal range test: Vocal Range Test. This test includes six voice types rather than just four. If you happen to not be one of the four listed above, you can choose a neighboring voice type that feels most comfortable. For example:

  1. Saprano
  2. Mezzo-saprano (If this is your voice type, try Saprano or Alto for Hymns)
  3. Alto
  4. Tenor
  5. Baritone (If this is your voice type, try Tenor or Bass for Hymns)
  6. Bass
